Carlos established the Applied Cryptography Unit at OIST in April 2022. As adjunct professor, he spends around two months per year in Okinawa – otherwise he leads the unit's activities remotely from Norway. Carlos is an experienced cryptographer and cyber security researcher and educator. His interests range from algebraic cryptanalysis to quantum cryptography, from secure computation to cyber economics. See here for more details. Originally from Brazil, Carlos has also lived in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Norway. He is an avid traveller, and has been visiting Japan regularly – for business and pleasure – since 2009.

Unit Administrator
My task is to provide research administration, ensuring unit members don’t get lost in paperwork and let them spend more time on their research instead.
I am not trained as a researcher, but it is very exciting to observe their research up close.
