Dr. Takayuki Yamashita, Group Leader of the Cellular and Molecular Synaptic Function Unit of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Dr. Tomoyuki Takahashi, Principal Investigator of the OIST Cellular and Molecular Synaptic Function Unit, et al. have discovered that a Ca2+ nanodomain plays a priming role for vesicle endocytosis at calyceal presynaptic terminals after hearing onset. Their work was published in the July 2010 issue (Vol. 13, Number 7) of the journal Nature Neuroscience.
