Basic Lab Support

Mission

To provide researchers at OIST with a wide range of fundamental research instruments, facilities, and services. Resources include a platform (Stratocore PPMS) to manage equipment reservations and scheduling and specially designed facilities for Biosafey Level-2 experiments.

Our section is dedicated to reinforcing the synergistic capabilities at OIST and creating an outstanding research environment. We strive to improve research efficiency by facilitating access to various common research equipment and services, and to provide training and technical support.

We manage the following facilities:

Chemical Storage Room, Cold Room, Common Biosafety Level-2 Facility, Common Histology Room, Equipment Corridor, Freezer Room, Service Alcove

Glass Washing

Regular and timely cleaning of laboratory glassware is critical in any research lab setting. The Glass Washing Service provides centralized services for cleaning laboratory glassware for OIST researchers. The team works with individual labs to accommodate specialized needs. The service includes glassware pickup and delivery directly to the laboratory.

Labware Redistribution

The Labware Redistribution System maximizes the use of research equipment and minimizes OIST's carbon footprint by facilitating its transfer between labs, thereby extending its lifespan.
And the Reuse Station provides researchers with donated consumables, glassware, and small devices. Researchers are encouraged to donate surplus items for this program's sustainability.

Periodic Inspection

Routine inspections are vital to a productive and well-functioning operation. This diligence ensures that devices operate within specified safety parameters, reducing the chances of incidents. On your behalf, we conduct regular inspections of instruments subject to legal management (Autoclaves and Biosafety Cabinets).

Research Core Facility Management System

BLS Section manages the utilization of a comprehensive core facilities equipment management system, PPMS (Pasteur Platform Management System, Stratocore SAS).

Major functions of PPMS include Equipment Booking, User Management, Incident and Maintenance Reporting, Service/Consumable Management, Cost Invoicing, Project Management, and Publication Tracking.
