Students from Nanao High School (Ishikawa Prefecture) visited OIST, spending two days experiencing the research environment at OIST.

OIST PhD students, Callum James Hudson from Marine Climate Change Unit, Alexander Henry Hodges from Quantum Machines Unit, and Margarita Dronova from Electronic and Quantum Magnetism Unit shared insights on their research and career path.

The students also conducted an experiment to detect microplastics in the environment using tuna fish purchased from a local supermarket in Okinawa under the guidance of Callum James Hudson. The results surprised the students, deepening their awareness of environmental issues. The students also presented their own research through poster sessions, receiving feedback from OIST PhD students. They also joined the campus tour and visited the Electronic and Quantum Magnetism Unit, getting a firsthand look at OIST’s advanced research facilities.
