Visit by Mr. Khaw Boon Wan, Health Minister of Singapore
Singaporean Health Minister Khaw visits OIST |
On August 31, 2007, Mr. Khaw Boon Wan, the Minister for Health of the Republic of Singapore, and his delegation made a visit to OIST, which was hosted by Mr. Ferry Toya, Executive Assistant to the President and Director of the Research Division, on behalf of President Dr. Sydney Brenner. At the Research Laboratory in Uruma City, Mr. Khaw met with Dr. Mitsuhiro Yanagida of the G0 Cell Unit and Dr. Jeff Wickens of the Neurobiology Research Unit, who each briefed the minister on their research while taking him on a tour of their units. Mr. Khaw then visited the Okinawa Health Biotechnology Research and Development Center in Uruma City and the main campus site in Onna Village, where he was briefed by OIST staff on the ongoing construction plan. Mr. Khaw commented that he was very impressed with research activities underway at OIST, and that many young researchers are working at the institution, including Dr. Mizuki Shimanuki of the G0 Cell Unit, whom the minister also met. | |
