Postdoctoral Researchers
There is currently no open postdoc position available. Nevertheless, applications to external fellowships, such as Research Fellowships for Young Scientists (for candidates from Japan), JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan (currently only short-term program for up to one year or applications through foreign nominating authorities), Global Postdoctoral Fellowships of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (for those from EU or Horizon Europe Associated Countries), Canon Foundation Research Fellowships (for those from European countries), and Walter Benjamin Fellowship of DFG (for those from Germany), can be discussed and supported based on mutual research interest. Our laboratory is fully equipped for performing organic synthesis experiments. Applications to Postdoctoral Fellowships of Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) can also be discussed, planning a collaborative project focusing on the life sciences together with another research unit at OIST.
PhD Students
We are looking for motivated graduate students who are interested in the synthesis of functional polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which are recently also called „nanographenes", and/or exploration of their applications in collaboration with other research units, such as on-surface synthesis and hybridization with quantum materials, involving investigations by scanning tunneling microscopy and other methods of surface science. Collaborative projects related to bioimaging and other bioapplications can also be discussed.
Please see the admissions website for the details of the OIST PhD program and the application procedure. On the other hand, short-term stays at OIST for collaborative experiments as a Visiting Research Student or Research Intern can be discussed and supported based on mutual research interest and funding availability.
Research Internship
OIST Research Internship Program offers research internship opportunities for 2–6 months. We are looking for interns who are motivated to work on the organic synthesis of functional polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and/or related projects in collaboration with other research units. Please see the admissions website for the details and the application procedure. Due to a large number of applications, only applicants with prior experiences of organic synthesis or ultrahigh vacuum experiments can be considered.
