Graduate students

I welcome inquiries from prospective graduate students interested in our unit’s research area and would be happy to discuss a potential graduate project. Applicants should be independent and highly motivated and have some academic research experience in a related field. The OIST Graduate School Program accepts applications with deadlines in November and April. The program is fully funded; students will receive a salary, as well as support for housing, relocation to Okinawa, a personal computer, and conference travel.

Research interns

I am open to accepting research interns through the OIST Research Internship Program, which offers support for 3 to 6 months, including a stipend and accommodation. If you are interested in joining the PhD program but need more research experience before making a decision, a research internship may be a wonderful opportunity. The application deadlines are in April and October.

Rotation students

The OIST PhD program requires students to complete three laboratory rotations in the first year to expose them to diverse scientific approaches and broaden their skill sets. I am happy to host students who are interested in gaining rotation experience in the field of ecology and who want to apply their unique skills to our unit’s research.

Visiting researchers

I look forward to welcoming long-term and short-term visiting researchers from all over the world at any career stage. If you are seeking support from OIST for your visit, the OIST Visiting Program offers various types of visits for flexible periods, providing travel and on-campus housing support.
