The Electronic and Quantum Magnetism Unit currently searches for applicants in the following areas:
(Updated: April 9, 2025)
Graduate Students
Our unit is looking for motivated graduate students who are interested in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science and Engineering. We have two research directions in our unit. One is the development of single-crystal quantum magnets, and the other is related to collective spin behavior driven by surface acoustic waves.
We conduct our research through in-lab setups, common facilities at OIST, and also national/international user facilities, such as the Spallation Neutron Source, the Advanced Photon Source, and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in USA. Our group utilizes a variety of probing techniques, covering essentially the full electro-magnetic spectral range in order to study correlated electrons and magnetism. The broad exposure of scientific research prepares students for future career opportunities in either academia or industry.
Research Intern Students
Interested undergraduate students of various physical science majors from other universities can contact the Unit head (Prof. Feng) directly. The formal application would be submitted through the Graduate School of OIST.
We have allocated all available slots of Research Internship up to Sept. 2025. We will consider hosting one intern along the direction of surface acoustic wave devices from October 2025 to April 2026.
Technicians
We are currently looking for one technician who is an expert in any of the following topics: electronics, microwave instruments, mechancal design and construction, and optics.
