Ants in Augmented Reality

OIST scientists have created a new way to experience research with the augmented reality app, Insects3D. The app pairs with a taxonomic research paper which presents six new species of Strumigenys ants, also known as miniature trap-jaw ants, from Fiji. Scientists used 3D x-ray scans to create models of the ants, allowing users to place them in the real world. The app allows people from all over the world to experience research they would traditionally have to go to a museum for.
