Dr. Cherry Murray retires from OIST Board

Chair of the OIST Board of Governors Dr. Cherry Murray has retired.

Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) announces that Board of Governors chair Dr. Cherry A. Murray has retired following seven years of outstanding service and commitment to the role.

Dr. Murray – who has taken her decision to address health issues in the period ahead – succeeded Dr. Torsten Wiesel as chair in 2017.


OIST Vice-Chair, Mr James Higa:
“We are immensely grateful to Dr. Cherry Murray for her sage leadership and steadfast support of OIST and its mission over her many years of service. All of us who have served as Governors appreciate the depth of her expertise and insight and saw her fulfil the role of Chair with diligence, collegiality, purpose, and passion. We will of course miss her, but fully appreciate and support the decision she has made and send her our sincere thanks and best wishes for good health.”

The OIST Board of Governors will meet to elect a Chair to succeed Dr. Murray on January 9 2025.
