Postdoctoral Position in Computational Protein Engineering, AI for Green Energy and Sustainable Biocatalysis

The position

The Molecular Bioengineering Group at OIST, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral scholar to apply rational engineering and cutting-edge AI tools for the design of proteins optimized for electron transfer. Our research lies at the intersection of protein evolution, computational and structural biology, with a focus on developing innovative proteins with real-world applications in renewable energy and biocatalysis.

About OIST

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University was established in 2011 to contribute to the development of science and technology worldwide and to serve as a hub of innovation in Okinawa. Responsibilities
  • Employ evolutionary principles and AI-driven algorithms to engineer proteins, focusing on the design of proteins with electron transfer capabilities for energy-related applications.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team using computational and biophysical methods to understand protein structure and function at atomic resolution.
  • Participate in lab meetings, mentor junior members, and contribute to the lab’s intellectual environment.
Qualifications

(Required)

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field
  • Strong background in bioinformatics and AI tools for protein engineering and/or molecular modeling.
  • Enthusiasm for basic science research and willingness to explore novel concepts.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Strong command of English for working in an international research environment.

(Preferred)

  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Wet lab experience, particularly in protein biochemistry.
Compensation and Benefits

For Postdoctoral Scholar: 
Expected Annual Salary: 4.5M-5.9M yen

Employment Term

Full-time, fixed-term appointment for 2 years. Contract initially with 6-month probationary period (inclusive). This contract may be renewed by taking into consideration the performance, conduct, and behavior of the Employee and OIST’s financial and other circumstances.

Saturday, Sunday, National holidays, and Year-end and New Year holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan. 3)
