The East Asia Joint Symposium (EAJS) is an annual event that brings together researchers from East Asia to foster discussions and collaborations. The EAJS focuses on biology, especially cell biology, but also developmental biology, cancer biology and immunology.
Established in 1994, the symposium has been hosted in rotation by institutions from Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan.
The EAJS was initially started as a joint research conference between the University of Tokyo in Japan and Seoul National University in Korea and has been held annually for the last 30 years. During that time the EAJS has expanded by inviting additional institutes including Kyoto University (Japan), Sungkyunkwan University (Korea), Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (China), National Taiwan University (Taiwan), National Taiwan Normal Univ (Taiwan), and Soonchunhyang Univ. (Korea).
In June 2013, OIST joined the EAJS. In 2015, OIST organized the 22th EAJS in Okinawa.
