[Abstract]

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is a commonly used method for measuring velocity in a flow field. It, however, has a larger random error compared to other velocimeters, which limits its accuracy in measuring the higher wave-number portion of the turbulence spectrum. To address this limitation,  we have developed the "Multiple Eye PIV" method, which captures images of tracer particles from multiple directions and reduces errors by averaging acquired particle positions. In this talk, I will outline this method and describe the results obtained using this method for the energy spectrum in a turbulent pipe flow, with a focus on resolving the high wavenumbers. 

We also employed this method for temperature measurement using thermochromic liquid crystal (TLC) particles, whose color varies with temperature. Our results demonstrated that using the mirror array reduced the random error in the ensemble average of the temperature compared to using a single mirror.
