This session will be done in Japanese. The program will start off with OIST general introduction, PhD & Research Internship admission process, financial support and student life followed by the panel discussion by 2 OIST PhD students.

Speakers

Tomoya Noma(PhD student at the Nucleic Acid Chemistry and Engineering Unit)

Tomoya was born and raised in Hiroshima. He completed his BSc and MSc degrees at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan, and joined OIST in 2021. At OIST, he joined the Nucleic Acid Chemistry and Engineering Unit (PI: Prof. Yohei Yokobayashi), where he works on developing RNA tools for mammalian synthetic biology, with applications in Nucleic acid medicine and stem cell research. Currently, he is working on a project to screen functional RNAs in human cells using viral platforms. He enjoys cooking, traveling, and raising his two cats in Okinawa.

Nanami Tomoda (PhD student at the Femtosecond Spectroscopy Unit)

Nanami was born and grew up in Tokyo, Japan. She received her B.S. from the School of Engineering, Tokyo University of Science. During her undergraduate period, she joined a six-month research internship at OIST. She chose OIST because she was attracted to the research environment through this experience. After enrollment, she decided to start her research in Femtosecond Spectroscopy Unit (PI: Prof. Keshav Dani) to do the project to observe properties of nonequilibrium state in two-dimensional materials using high power lasers. She is also supervised by Prof. Yoshinori Okada fromQuantum Materials Science Unit.
