Staff Scientist / Postdoctoral Researcher, Organic Optoelectronics Unit (Kabe Unit)

The position

At the Organic Optoelectronics Unit (Kabe Unit), we primarily focus on the control of charge carriers and excitons in organic materials. Our research spans a wide range, from organic synthesis and polymer synthesis to detailed spectroscopic analysis and the fabrication of organic semiconductor devices.

We are seeking a staff scientist or postdoctoral researcher.

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University was established in 2011 to contribute to the development of science and technology worldwide and to serve as a hub of innovation in Okinawa. Responsibilities

The applicant will work on the following themes based on the applicant's research experience.

  1. Synthesis and photophysical analysis of luminescent polymer
  2. Synthesis and characterization of organic semiconductor materials
  3. Ultrafast spectroscopic analysis using femtosecond lasers
  4. Fabrication and analysis of organic semiconducting devices
  5. Optical analysis of organic materials by using X-rays
Qualifications

(Required)

  1. Ph.D. degree (Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering)
  2. For Staff Scientist, more than 5 years of research experience after obtaining PhD
  3. Communication skills in English

(Preferred)

  1. Experience in organic semiconducting devices
  2. Experience in polymer chemistry
  3. Experience in organic chemistry
Compensation and Benefits

For Staff Scientist:

Expected Annual Salary: 5.0M – 7.5M yen

*This amount represents the expected annual salary range for this position, which will be determined based on the candite’s experience, skills and background in accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations.  (Salary range for Staff Scientist)

For Postdoctoral Scholar:

Expected Annual Salary: 4.5M-5.9M yen

In accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations (Salary range for Postdoctoral Scholar)

Employment Term

Full-time, fixed-term appointment for 2 years. Contract initially with 6-month probationary period (inclusive). This contract may be renewed by taking into consideration the performance, conduct, and behavior of the Employee and OIST’s financial and other circumstances.

9:00-17:30 (Discretionary)

Holidays:

Saturday, Sunday, National holidays, and Year-end and New Year holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan. 3)

Leave:

Annual Paid Leave, Summer Leave, Sick Leave, and Special Leave

Overtime work hours:

Discretionary Working Hours System

In the discretionary labor system for specialized work, the employee shall be deemed to have worked 7 hours 30 minutes per day.
