School Age Program Classroom Staff (Part-time)
OIST now has almost a thousand people studying or working on campus, and their overall wellbeing is seen as a key to their success at OIST and the success of OIST as an institution as well. In this regard, the University Community Services Division oversee the provision of campus-wide community services that enhance lives of students, staff and families at OIST. The Division is responsible for the management of existing welfare services including: the Child Development Center, the Ganjuu Wellbeing Service, the Resource Center, and the development of Recreation Services. Some of these sections are financed through fees collected from the users of the services as well as the government subsidies to the University. Staff members in this division strive to foster a spirit of teamwork where ideas are welcomed, conflicts are resolved in a positive and respectful manner, and diversity is valued.
The School Age Programs Classroom Staff is responsible for carry out programs for children after school as well as during the summer holidays and other school breaks. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who enjoys working with school age children. Over the next two to three years, the number of children in these programs will steadily increase as will the number of different programs offered. The School Age Programs Classroom Staff will collaborate with other School Age Programs staff members as well as with the staff members from the preschool and other members of University Community Services.
The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University was established in 2011 to contribute to the development of science and technology worldwide and to serve as a hub of innovation in Okinawa. Childcare:80-95%
- Conduct developmentally appropriate programs for school age children
- Maintain an effective, clean, well-organized and safe physical setting for the school age programs
- Supervise and support school age children in small and large groups (up to teacher to child ratio 1:30)
- Conduct appropriate behavior management practices
Administrative:5-20%
- Communication
o Contact families and schools, as appropriate, by responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner
o Report any accidents or incidents to parents and SAP Director, in a timely manner
o Give guidance and Redirect children when necessary - Operational
o Inventory snacks and other operational supplies, make purchase recommendations to SAP director
o Updates Attendance daily
o Support Transportation Coordination, including creating and updating schedules, communication with Facilities and schools as directed
o Contact Facilities for maintenance as directed
o Support the School Age Program Director with completing administrative paperwork required enrollment for all programs as directed
o Support the Planning of field trips and special Programming as directed
(Required)
- 2-3 years’ experience in implementing programs for children and/or young people
- Strong organization, planning and administrative skills
- Understanding of child development principles
- Excellent communication skills in Japanese
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion
(Preferred)
- Native level English (writing, reading and speaking); bilingual in Japanese is an advantage
- Effective computer skills including experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); ability to track data and produce reports

Part-time,5 days per week (Mon-Fri), 5.25 hours per day,
12:45-18:30 for after school programs;either 8:00-16:30 or 10:00-18:30 during holiday program days.
