Environmental Science and Informatics Section Research Support Technician

The position

Work as a team in a co-ordinated manner on a wide variety of tasks, including supporting acoustics data analysis, supporting fieldwork, composing outreach content, wildlife photography, etc.
The Environmental Science and Informatics (ESI) Section, where this position belongs, is to provide support for environmental research for OIST and for the broader research community.  This includes managing field sites, equipment, and data sets, as well as helping to coordinate permissions with local stakeholders and agencies.  We also provide experienced field teams for research support as well as statistical support services with particular expertise in GIS, phylogenetics, and macroecology.

Responsibilities
  1. Acoustics data analysis support.
  2. Supporting a range of researchers in terrestrial research.
  3. OKEON field equipment maintenance support.
  4. Writing outreach contents and proof-reading English translations.
  5. Wildlife photography.
Qualifications

(Required)

  1. Sufficient competence and experience to carry out OKEON maintenance and field survey support for OIST researchers.
  2. Good Japanese communication skills.
  3. Highly motivated to conduct research on terrestrial studies.
  4. Computer skills with MS Office, Adobe software, Kaleidoscope, Raven, Izotope, and R.
  5. Japanese driving licence.
  6. Advanced English proficiency in Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
Compensation and Benefits

In accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations

Expected Annual Salary: 3,000,000 - 6,000,000 yen
*This amount represents the expected annual salary range for this position, which will be determined based on your experience and skills in accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations.

Employment Term

Full-time, fixed term appointment for 1 year. Contract initially with 6-month probationary period (inclusive). This contract may be renewed by taking into consideration the performance evaluation, conduct, and behavior of the Employee and OIST’s financial and other circumstances.

Working Hours

Scheduled Working hours: 9:00 – 17:30
Rest period: 12:00 – 13:00
Flextime (core time 10:00-15:00) 7.5hrs per day (Multiplied by prescribed working days per month)

Holidays:
Saturday, Sunday, National holidays, and Year-end and New Year holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan. 3)

Leave:
Annual Paid Holidays, Summer Leave, Sick Leave, and Special Leave
