The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST; see www.oist.jp) is a dynamic new graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan.
OIST continues to expand rapidly with many mid-career hires each year. Therefore, the accounting section needs to focus on establishing rules and systems, and ensuring that they permeate the workforce. Accordingly, we would like to hire a person with not only practical accounting skills, but also good communication skills and an awareness of the need to build better business operations.
The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University was established in 2011 to contribute to the development of science and technology worldwide and to serve as a hub of innovation in Okinawa. OIST is a dynamic new graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan which offers a 5-year PhD program and brings together outstanding researchers from across the country and across disciplines to conduct cutting-edge scientific research.
The university is located on 85 hectares of protected forestland overlooking a beautiful shoreline and coral reefs. The campus is striking architecturally, and the facilities are outstanding. To facilitate multidisciplinary research, there are no academic departments. Outstanding resources and equipment are provided and managed to encourage easy access and collaboration.

- General accounting, including annual and monthly closing
- Fixed asset management
- Treatment of accounts payable
- Operation and entry of ERP system
- Update and revise Finance/Accounting related regulations and manuals
- Accounting automation and paperless
- Response to audits (external and internal audits)
- Response to on-site inspections by the Board of Audit
- Other general accounting operations
*Responsibilities will be fixed according to work experiences and knowledge
*Position may be subject to the internal transfer within Finance division (budget, procurement or accounting section)
(Required)
- 2+ years of accounting experience
- PC skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Self-motivated, self-sufficient, and a good communicator
- TOEIC Score 600 level English and Native level Japanese
(Preferred)
- Accounting knowledge equal to Bookkeeping 2nd Grade, Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry
- Experience with ERP system
- Experience in Accounting Firm or Tax Accountant Office
- Work experience in an English-speaking workplace
Expected Annual Salary: 3,500,000 - 7,300,000 yen
*This amount represents the expected annual salary range for this position, which will be determined based on your experience and skills in accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations.
