Digital Communications Coordinator

The position

Communications and Public Relations Division is looking for a proactive and skilled digital communications coordinator to focus on social media, data analysis, and website editing. The position will lead the university’s social media strategy and policy and advise on digital marketing. The new team member will also help to manage website content and support website editors in other units and sections. The candidate should be adaptable to a quickly changing work environment and open to other cultures and diversity.

About OIST

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University was established in 2011 to contribute to the development of science and technology worldwide and to serve as a hub of innovation in Okinawa. OIST is a dynamic new graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan which offers a 5-year PhD program and brings together outstanding researchers from across the country and across disciplines to conduct cutting-edge scientific research.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement social media strategy, including setting objectives, understanding audiences, planning editorial calendar, managing and updating accounts, and evaluating outcomes.
  2. Develop, implement, and analyze social media campaigns. Advise and support other internal groups on social media practices and digital marketing campaigns, including creating tools and templates for user groups to adhere to best practices.
  3. Monitor digital content performance using analytics tools; report findings, flag potential risks in digital communications, and propose countermeasures.
  4. Monitor social media channels and media coverage related to OIST.
  5. Write, edit, and update content for the website, social media, newsletters, and other collateral in English and Japanese, including graphics.
  6. Assist CPR web editors, photographers, and designers.
  7.  Identify opportunities for data visualization; create visual content, including infographics, etc.
  8.  Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

(Required)

  1. An undergraduate/first-level university degree in communication, marketing, journalism, or related field.
  2. A minimum of three years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public information, public affairs, or related areas. An understanding of digital copywriting and publishing.
  3. Fluency in both English and Japanese.
  4. Expertise in social media, digital marketing, and SEO. Ability to create content for a mix of purposes and a range of audiences.
  5. Good interpersonal and team working skills. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate aims, creative approach, priorities, and challenges.

(Preferred)

  1. Experience with Japanese social media and marketing strategies.
  2. Ability to use semantic HTML markup, metadata, and CSS.
  3. Ability to use web and social media analytics for marketing and content strategy.
Compensation and Benefits

Expected Annual Salary: 3,900,000 8,600,000 yen 
*This amount represents the expected annual salary range for this position, which will be determined based on your experience and skills in accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations.
