Drupal Web Developer

The position

OIST is seeking a flexible, experienced Drupal developer to join the Digital Content, Brand and Design (DCBD) team in meeting the needs of a rapidly growing English-language graduate university for science and technology. Work with people from over 50 countries. Experience life in Japan while learning about Okinawa’s own unique culture. Enjoy cultural events, explore coral reefs, travel around Asia, and participate in an active multicultural university community while contributing to the future of Japan’s most international university. OIST helps families with relocation support, services for living in Okinawa, and onsite preschool and afterschool childcare facilities.

The DCBD team is made up of diverse and experienced experts in content strategy, design, development, media production, and social media marketing. While each member has an area of expertise, they all collaborate to promote OIST to the domestic and international public audience and the campus community using photos, videos, marketing, and websites.

A typical day in this role consists of collaborating with different groups at OIST to build out and maintain features on our Drupal web platforms. These sites include the university public website as well as several internal portals. You will cover both front-end development using Twig and back-end tasks like jumping into a MySQL database or working with our cloud platform to perform server updates. In addition, people from around the university will ask for your expertise when scoping and proposing new projects and ask for help when they have a problem.

Come live in sunny Okinawa and help us to build a new and different university in Japan.
