[Seminar] 'Development of optical remote imaging, spectroscopic diagnostic and treatment monitoring for a diverse patient population' by Prof Douplik
Description
Title: Development of optical remote imaging, spectroscopic diagnostic and treatment monitoring for a diverse patient population
Speaker: Dr. Alexandre (Sasha) Douplik
Professor, Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada
Scientist, iBEST, Keenan Research Centre of the LKS Knowledge Institute, St. Michael Hospital
Abstract:
My reserach group at Toronto Metropolitan University develops an imaging remote modality for diagnostics of cardiovascular diseases and cancer making the proposed engineering technology work at the close level of accuracy for a diverse patient population considering different skin tone, age, and sex/gender and overcoming the problem of a limited depth (a few mm only) of light penetration into biotissue. One of the research foci is a contactless optical monitoring, a novel technological modality that provides observations for patients who should avoid any physical contact with sensors (e.g., diabetic wounds, massive skin burns, transplantations), remote monitoring for security purposes (e.g., airports, car drivers, pilots) or telemedicine (e.g., remote clinical consulting, outpatients’ monitoring). The technology also aims facilitating monitoring or selfmonitoring of vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, level of stress, and even forecasting stroke or heart attack using machine learning and artificial intelligence.
