Center Manager for the OIST Center for Quantum Technologies 

The position

The OIST Center for Quantum Technologies (OCQT) was established in October 2022 as one of the Quantum Innovation Hubs (QIHs) in Japan. OCQT conducts cutting-edge research, performs international collaboration and supports industry-academia collaboration.  At present, it runs the 3rd SIP education program for quantum technologies as well as a several national projects in the quantum science and technology field.  

Position summary:
The center Manager will be responsible for managing the center activities, external/internal grants and finance within the center and the administrative responsibilities as a QIH as well as a team of administrators supporting the center director.

About OIST

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University was established in 2011 to contribute to the development of science and technology worldwide and to serve as a hub of innovation in Okinawa. OIST is a dynamic new graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan which offers a 5-year PhD program and brings together outstanding researchers from across the country and across disciplines to conduct cutting-edge scientific research.

Responsibilities

The primary duties include, but are not limited to;

  1. To proactively identifying opportunities for the center to strength it activities as a QIH and to coordinate collective efforts within the center and its partners.
  2. To work with the center director and center members to develop strategic plans and activities for the center and then implement them with the administrative staff of the center.
  3. To coordinate administrative matters in the center with the corresponding divisions at OIST, such as governance, legal, and public relations.
  4. Liaison with the QIH Head quarter to coordinate the QIH activities.
  5. Assist the center director in budget management with internal/external center funds.
  6. Management, team management, training, and mentoring of the centers administrative staff.
  7. Other general administrative work for OIST Center for Quantum Technologies.
Qualifications

(Required)

  1. Bachelor’s degree in any field.
  2. 5+ years of experience in industry, government or academia.  Experience in more than one sector is preferred.
  3. Experience in education and research support.
  4. Business-level proficiency in Japanese and Business-level communication skills in English.
  5. Excellent time management, teamwork, and organizational skills.

(Preferred)

  1. MBA or Masters degree.
  2. Experience in education industry.
  3. Educational experience abroad.
Compensation and Benefits

Expected Annual Salary: 8,800,000 yen
*This amount represents the median annual salary for this position, which will be determined based on your experience and skills in accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations.

As this is a managerial role, the working days, working hours, and break time do not apply to general employees' prescribed working hours.
