William John MUNRO received his D. Phil degree in Physics from the University of Waikato (NZ) in 1995 and has spent the majority of his career as an industrial scientist in both Hewlett Packard and NTT Basic Research Laboratories. Joining OIST in 2023, Bill’s research focus in Quantum Science ranges from foundational issues of quantum theory through to applications of quantum technology and designs for their practical realization.

Seungbeom Chin
Staff Scientist
Email: seungbum.chin (at) oist.jp
Seungbeom Chin earned his Ph.D. in physics from Seoul National University. He worked as a researcher at SungKyunKwan University and ICTQT, focusing on quantum information theories. He is recently working on the development of a novel graph-based method for designing linear quantum networks that generate multipartite entanglement. He also loves jazz, museums, painting, Borges, Dostoyevski, and basketball.
Postdocs
Ivan Iakoupov
Postdoctoral Researcher
Email: ivan.iakoupov (at) oist.jp
Ivan Iakoupov has a Ph.D. in quantum physics from the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. Ivan has worked on theoretical quantum optics, atomic physics, and circuit QED. Now, as a postdoc in OIST, Ivan is interested in applying advanced analytical and numerical techniques to find new applications for the diverse experimental platforms.
Heitor Peres Casagrande
Postdoctoral Researcher
Email: heitor.peres (at) oist.jp
Heitor Casagrande received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the Singapore University of Technology and Design in 2024, where he worked with quantum systems simulations and quantum complexity. Having joined OIST the same year, Heitor's interests range from renormalization group techniques with tensor networks and neural network quantum states to open quantum systems dynamics, as well as quantum chaos and complexity.
Oliver Bellwood
Postdoctoral Researcher
Email: oliver.bellwood (at) oist.jp
Oliver received his PhD from the University of Queensland in 2023. His background is in quantum spin chains and magnetic Raman spectroscopy. At OIST, he is researching the simulation of low-dimensional condensed matter systems in the context of quantum computation. Beyond research, Oliver divides his time between chess, bouldering, and, most often, eating as much local food as he can.
