OIST at the Okinawa Cooperation Forum 2011
The goal of the “Okinawa Cooperation Forum 2011” is to deepen cooperation and promote mutual understanding among economic experts in Okinawa and Kyusyu. At the Forum, on September 2nd, OIST’s Mr. Takeuchi gave a talk presenting an overview of the current status and goals at OIST, as well as OIST’s contribution to the local community through planning an R&D Cluster. Many participants showed great interest in OIST and asked questions ranging from the criteria for accepting students from abroad, to recruitment of professors at OIST. The forum was cosponsored by Kyushu Economic Federation and Okinawa Prefectural Council of Economic Organizations, and about 100 economic leaders from Kyusyu, Okinawa and Yamaguchi took part in meeting whose two themes were, “Industry-University Cooperation” and “Tourism”.
Mr. Taichi Hirata, the director of Department of Culture at Tourism and Sports of Okinawa Prefecture Office, and Mr. Shigenobu Asato, the chairman of Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau, gave lectures on Tourism in Okinawa. Mr. Matsuo, chairman of Kyushu Economic Federation, concluded stating “Today’s topics, such as establishing a world-class university in Okinawa, and various strategies to target international tourists, were very serious and at the same time unbelievably stimulating! I am excited to see more collaboration between Okinawa and Kyushu.”
