Ichiro Kikuta Yambaru Byobu Exhibition - Painting a forest full of life
From October 1st-31st, 2013, an exhibit featuring ink-painted byobu, or folding screens, by Kunigami Village artist Ichiro Kikuta takes place at the OIST campus. Kikuta makes his byobu with traditional methods, featuring plants and animals that he runs into on a daily basis in the Yambaru forest of North Okinawa. This video will take you on a virtual tour to the Yambaru forest and behind the scenes of byobu making. Listen to Kikuta as he speaks about his feelings toward ink painting.
