OIST joins competitive global scholars’ program
The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) has been selected to take part in a Global Scholars Program supported by the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). This is a competitive program designed for innovators from invited institutions to gain funding for breakthrough science focused on drug discovery or clinical research.
Researchers from OIST are now invited to apply to this program through the submission of a research proposal. If selected, they will receive funding for three years, as well as mentorship and networking opportunities.
Mr. Graham Garner, the Technology Licensing Specialist within OIST’s Office of Technology Development and Innovation (TDIC), stated that this is a great opportunity for researchers interested in drug discovery. “This is a comprehensive program and one that OIST is excited to take part in for 2022. If selected, a scholar will receive funding of up to 1 mil USD over the next three years along with expertise from a dedicated NIBR scientific collaborator. The aim is to explore new scientific frontiers in our shared mission to improve the lives of patients.”
For the 2022 NGSP cycle, more than 50 institutions from around the world were invited to participate. NIBR is primarily seeking projects that push scientific boundaries and challenge the status quo.
“If all goes well, maybe the researchers will discover a new drug or make a valuable contribution to these scientific fields… it’s very possible,” concluded Mr. Garner.
