Figure 1: Pectoral fin segmentation of the Great blue spotted mudskipper, Boleophthalmus pectinirostris, displaying modified abductor muscles (purple, blue) and a powerful, highly specialized muscle between the fin rays (green) to provide greater control and flexibility in terrestrial locomotion. This mudskipper species mainly inhabits exposed, intertidal mudflats.
