■Abstract■
Organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) are attracting considerable interest for research that spans the continuum from fundamental studies of their operation mechanism to their applications in biomedical fields. In OECTs, the conductivity of a semiconducting polymer film such as poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) : polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS), which is known as a de-facto standard for this field, deposited between a source and a drain electrode, is modulated by the injection and extraction of ions from an electrolyte, in which a gate electrode is immersed. A recent trend involves OECT applications in neuromorphic devices and biosensors. Neuromorphic devices emulate computational tasks performed by biological synapses, such as short-term depression (STD), short-term potentiation (STP), and long-term potentiation (LTP). This talk covers recent topics on the factors connecting the transient response of OECTs to their neuromorphic behavior and preparation techniques of functionalized mixed conductor films for biosensor applications.
