Education Coordinator

The position

The Education Coordinator supports academic and professional development of OIST PhD students by providing expertise in curriculum development, working with students on course advising, teaching science communication, and writing skillsThe position is responsible for laboratories and allied equipment and consumables.  The Education Coordinator also provides support for university events and contributes to the admissions selection of PhD students. 

About OIST

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University was established in 2011 to contribute to the development of science and technology worldwide and to serve as a hub of innovation in Okinawa. OIST is a dynamic new graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan which offers a 5-year PhD program and brings together outstanding researchers from across the country and across disciplines to conduct cutting-edge scientific research.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as Curriculum Advisor to new students for selecting elective courses.
  • Design, implement, conduct, and evaluate science writing skills training and communication support for students.
  • Collaborate with faculty on science curriculum to develop new courses, and map course competences and prerequisites.  
  • Compile and analyze data, create reports, and make recommendations for process and other improvements.
  • Assist with university events and outreach activities.
  • Assist with PhD and RI admissions student screening, interviews, and selection.
  • Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and consumables.
  •  Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

(Required)

  1. PhD degree in science or related field.
  2.  Broad knowledge of different fields of science and new frontiers in science or willingness to proactively gain this knowledge.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.  
  4. Excellent organizational, analytical, and collaboration skills.  
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills.  
  6. Ability to take direction and to give and receive feedback.  
  7. Proficiency with MS Office suite.

(Preferred)

  1. Knowledge of laboratory equipment, chemical handling, safety, and new technology.
  2. Evidence of curriculum development and/or teaching, especially in sciences.
  3. Prior work experience in an academic environment.
  4. Evidence of strategic planning and evaluation skills.
Compensation and Benefits

Expected Annual Salary: 3,900,000 - 7,300,000 yen
*This amount represents the expected annual salary range for this position, which will be determined based on your experience and skills in accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations.
