Design Coordinator
One of the fundamental roles of the Division of Buildings and Facilities Management is planning and managing design and construction of new buildings and facilities for OIST in accordance with the framework of OIST’s expansion plans. The Campus Building Section within the Division is responsible for this important task. The Design Coordinator will be responsible for coordinate of assigned new construction, including new buildings, infrastructure, and additions or alterations to the existing facilities of the Institute. Responsibilities of the Design Coordinator also include coordination among with other members of the Division of Buildings and Facilities Management and with the consultants, contractors, government agencies, and other relevant parties. The Design Coordinator will report directly to the Manager of the section.
The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University was established in 2011 to contribute to the development of science and technology worldwide and to serve as a hub of innovation in Okinawa. - Review and planning and design of new and existing facilities and infrastructure-related plans and designs.
- Assist in preparation of construction-related cost estimates for budget requests.
- Preparation of design and construction tender documents in cooperation with consultants and others.
- Involvement in evaluation of tender results, contractor selection and coordination for new facilities.
- Involvement in site management, construction management, quality control, cost control, and schedule management during construction.
- Preparation of documents and coordination with administrative agencies for various approval and authorization procedures for construction, as well as coordination of various inspections and procedures upon completion of construction.
- Prepare periodic reports and other documents for relevant departments and administrative and governmental agencies and prepare the necessary materials for each audit.
- Coordinate and collaborate with management and facility management division staff on various tasks.
(Required)
- 5+ years of design or construction management experience on construction projects.
- Knowledge of the construction project process from inception to completion.
- Ability to communicate and negotiate with relevant departments within OIST, domestic and international consultants and contractors.
- Ability to analyze, manage, and respond to risks related to quality, cost, and construction schedule.
- Knowledge of Japanese laws, ordinances and regulations applicable to construction projects in Japan, including building, disaster prevention and environmental protection.
- Native level Japanese reading comprehension
(Preferred)
- 1st Class Architect in Japan
- Experience of working on government projects and handling subsidy budgets.
- Experience of working in Okinawa with local consultants and contractors.
- Ability to communicate and interact in English with the international members of OIST.
Expected Annual Salary: 3,900,000 - 7,300,000 yen
*This amount represents the expected annual salary range for this position, which will be determined based on your experience and skills in accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations.
