CV Writing Workshop (Module 1 of C-Hub Academic Job Market Series)
Description
Registration for the Academic Job Market Workshop Series in the C-Hub is now open to all OIST members. Here is the link.
The details of the first workshop in the series are as follows:
Date (Module 1: CV Writing):
June 19, from 4:15-5:15 pm
Location:
Seminar Room L4F01
Facilitator:
Brandon Conlon (Assistant Director for Faculty and Postdoctoral Professional Development)
Series Description:
This is a series for those who are either currently in the midst of a job search for an academic position and would like to improve their existing materials, or for anyone who plans to engage in a job search on the academic market in the future. The series will cover the most common application materials required for academic jobs, as well as an introduction to the process of searching for a job itself. It is meant to be a complement to a second series on the non-academic job search. One of the main differences between the two searches in terms of application materials is the use of the CV when seeking academic jobs and the use of the résumé when the goal is to attain an industry job that is not academic. (But note that different regions of the world or different organizations may use these terms interchangeably or with variations in meaning.)
In addition to Module 1 above, the series will include the following five workshops:
Module 2: Writing Cover Letters
Module 3: Writing Research Statements
Module 4: Writing Teaching Statements
Module 5: Writing Diversity Statements
Module 6: Job Search Process
The dates for the Modules 2-6 above will be determined based on preferences of those who attend the first workshop. If you plan to attend at least one of the workshops above, please do register.
Registration will include access to the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) site for the series, which will provide access to links of carefully curated resources and hopefully some asynchronous discussions based on your needs and desires.
If you do plan to attend the first workshop, please respond by the end of Thursday, June 15.
You will be asked to upload a draft CV for the first workshop. More information will be provided upon registration.
